MINA BELLE BROOKS Mrs. Mina Belle Brooks, 69, of 27th San Bernardino, died Wednesday in a San Bernardino hospital. A native of Iowa, where she was born Aug. 2, 1890, Mrs. Brooks had been a resident of San Bernardino for 32 years.

Survivors include a son, Jack Council Hits Unusual Deal On Equipment The San Bernardino City Council found itself in the peculiar position the other day of to give a department head an additional piece of equipment he doesn't want The item is a power pipe threader the council would like the Park Department to have. Councilmen figure it would reduce time spent threading pipe by hand, thus cutting down labor costs. OPERATION PROBLEM But Park Supt. Jerry L. Myers wasn't keen the idea.

He indicated finding men to operate the equipment at the time and place its needed would prove a problem. Myers' budget requests totaled $480,404, $26,780 more than allocations for the current year. He seeks fours additional employes. The budget is differlent in another major respect. Whereas the council normally whacks down most budgets at budget time, this one could increase considerably.

That would be brought on by passage in the June election of the bond proposals for park improvements. Passage would require a greater expenditure for park maintenance. STILL BE TIME If the bonds are passed, there will be time between the election and final adoption of the budget in July to make the necessary changes, city officials said. Projects indicated in the budget include the following: Wildwood Park lighting, Hill Bowl repairs, $2,000, a from the current budget; 9th St. park remodeling, $2,000 carryover; playground equipment, $800; new picnic tables, landscape and develop grounds at the new city library, $4,000 carryover.

OTHER EXPENSES Meridian Ave. park site, $5,000 carryover; repair and painting at Perris Hill ball park; 7th St. water intake at Inland Lake Park, $4,000 carryover; 19th and Muscott park site, $4,710 carryover; Lytle Creek Park rest room repairs and lighting, $3,000, and footbridge at Perris Hill across the Twin Creek flood control channel, $7,000.
